Gerda Wegener (Danish, 1886-1940) This hand-painted drawing on paper depicts an elegant woman in a dynamic pose, dressed in a striking black and white ensemble with a coordinating hat. Gerda Wegener was a notable Danish painter, illustrator, and erotic artist of the early 20th century. She gained recognition for her distinctive fashion illustrations and, later, for her groundbreaking paintings that fearlessly explored and challenged societal norms surrounding gender and love.
