Mary Cassatt (American, 1844-1926) An oil on canvas depicting two young girls engaged in play on a sun-drenched beach. The foreground figure, in a white smock, focuses on a blue bucket and spade, while another child in a straw hat with a red ribbon reclines nearby. The scene is rendered with a palette of blues for the sea and sky, and warm yellow-greens for the sand. Signed 'Mary Causatt' in the lower right. Framed. Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) was an American painter and printmaker. She spent much of her adult life in France, where she became a vital member of the Impressionist movement and befriended Edgar Degas. Cassatt is renowned for her evocative depictions of the private and public lives of women, with a particular focus on mothers and children.
