Purvis Young (American, 1943-2010) An expressive oil on board, this work depicts a vibrant scene of seven standing figures with prominent yellow halos, their forms rendered in bold, direct brushstrokes. Below them, a powerful composition of stylized forms in a palette of blues, reds, greens, and warm yellows suggests a crowd or hands raised. Signed 'Young' in the lower center. Framed. Purvis Young was an influential African-American folk and outsider artist, celebrated in South Florida for his unique vision. Emerging from the Overtown community, his art often reflected social and spiritual themes. His life and work were documented in "Purvis of Overtown." Dimensions: Unframed: 15 3/4 x 15 3/4 inches Framed: 17 3/4 x 17 3/4 inches Provenance: Private collection.
