(Peruvian, b. 1958) Original Peruvian Canvas. Alfredo Lopez Morales is one of the most recognized contemporary continuators of Ayacucho's celebrated artistic heritage. Grandson of Joaquin Lopez Antay-one of the most illustrious and influential masters of twentieth-century Peruvian art-he grew up within this distinguished family tradition and has devoted his career to preserving its legacy while developing an unmistakable visual language of his own. His artistic production includes retablos, crosses, masks, murals, and original canvases, and in 2022 he received the prestigious Joaquin Lopez Antay Medal in recognition of his distinguished trajectory and contribution to Peruvian art. This impressive original canvas is organized around a monumental central blossom rendered in brilliant red, golden yellow, and deep violet. The flower radiates outward with remarkable energy, establishing a powerful focal point from which the entire composition appears to unfold. Surrounding the central medallion is a richly balanced arrangement of sweeping blue, violet, and green forms, smaller multicolored blossoms, magenta buds, and curling red and pink vines. The mirrored botanical elements create a dynamic sense of symmetry while subtle variations in line, scale, and brushwork preserve the immediacy and individuality of the artist's hand. The brilliant palette of crimson, emerald green, cobalt blue, violet, magenta, yellow, and white gives the painting an exceptional visual presence. Its large square format and vivid red perimeter produce the effect of a ceremonial floral emblem-joyful, commanding, and designed to transform the surrounding space. Although rooted in the ornamental vocabulary inherited from the Lopez Antay family, this is an independent contemporary painting on canvas. Alfredo Lopez Morales enlarges and abstracts traditional floral forms, translating his celebrated family legacy into a bold original composition that demonstrates his own mastery of color, rhythm, and decorative balance. The auction record provided for a pair of his 2025 panels documents a final price of $1,400 against an estimate of $500-$550, reflecting notable collector interest in his work and in the historic Lopez Antay artistic lineage. Works by the artist have previously been presented through auctions organized by the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI). ARTIST Alfredo Lopez Morales was born in Ayacucho, Peru, in 1958. He is the son of Mardonio Lopez Quispe and grandson of the legendary Joaquin Lopez Antay, from whom he inherited and learned the family's artistic tradition. Today, he is regarded as one of its most prominent living continuators, preserving its historical identity while expanding it through original canvases, murals, masks, crosses, and increasingly abstract compositions. PROVENANCE Acquired directly from the artist in Peru for Gallery Arts & Auctions Co. AUTHENTICITY This canvas is an original creation by Alfredo Lopez Morales.
