Lopez Morales (Peruvian, b. 1958) Original Peruvian Canvases. Alfredo Lopez Morales is one of the most widely recognized contemporary representatives of Ayacucho's celebrated artistic heritage. Grandson and direct disciple of Joaquin Lopez Antay-one of the most illustrious and influential masters in twentieth-century Peruvian art-he has dedicated his career to continuing this distinguished family legacy while developing an unmistakable visual language of his own. In 2022, Alfredo Lopez Morales received the prestigious Joaquin Lopez Antay Medal in recognition of his artistic trajectory and contribution to the transmission of Peru's traditional arts. This exceptional pair of original canvases presents two complementary explorations of floral form, color, rhythm, and decorative abundance. Conceived in matching monumental vertical formats, the paintings create a powerful visual dialogue while retaining clearly individual compositions. The first canvas features an imposing symmetrical arrangement centered around a radiant multicolored flower. Large blue, green, violet, and magenta forms unfold vertically across the white ground, accompanied by red scrolling stems and numerous smaller blossoms. Its balanced structure and generous scale give the painting the ceremonial presence of an architectural panel. The second canvas offers a striking contrast through an abundant field of individually painted red and violet flowers. A larger concentric blossom positioned below the center provides a strong visual anchor, while the surrounding flowers vary subtly in size, form, and placement, creating an energetic impression of movement and continuous growth. Together, the canvases reveal two complementary aspects of Alfredo Lopez Morales's artistic vocabulary: disciplined symmetry and spontaneous floral profusion. The brilliant reds, purples, greens, blues, yellows, and magentas retain the vitality of the artist's hand, while the red perimeter borders visually unite the two paintings as a commanding and highly collectible ensemble. Although connected to the ornamental heritage preserved by the Lopez Antay family, these are independent contemporary paintings on canvas. Alfredo Lopez Morales enlarges and reinterprets inherited floral elements, transforming them into bold original compositions that honor his grandfather's extraordinary legacy while demonstrating his own confident approach to abstraction, color, and design. A pair of his panels offered by the institution sold for $1,400 against an estimate of $500-$550, reflecting notable collector interest in his work and in the historic Lopez Antay artistic lineage. Works by the artist have previously been presented through auctions organized by the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI). ARTIST Alfredo Lopez Morales was born in Ayacucho, Peru, in 1958. He learned directly from his grandfather Joaquin Lopez Antay and continued the family tradition alongside his father, Mardonio Lopez Quispe. Throughout hi
