Maximo Limaco Soto (Peruvian) Master Quinua Ceramic. Marino Maximo Limaco Soto is a master ceramist from Quinua, Ayacucho, whose original works preserve and reinterpret the celebrated ceramic traditions of his community. Through expressive modeling and narrative decoration, he transforms scenes, animals, customs, and functional forms from Andean life into distinctive contemporary ceramic compositions. Official cultural sources identify him as a ceramist dedicated to preserving the artistic heritage of Quinua through his workshop, Arte y Tradicion Marino. This exceptional original ceramic composition takes the form of a richly decorated central vessel surrounded by six projecting cups. Its sculptural body is crowned by a prominent loop handle and animated by a charming hand-modeled bird applied to the front, giving the work an engaging sense of movement and personality. Each cup is individually formed and attached around the vessel in a carefully balanced radial arrangement. Delicate white-painted borders accent their flared rims, while floral branches, leaves, scalloped bands, and finely executed linear ornamentation enrich the warm terracotta surface. The bird is similarly decorated with botanical motifs, visually integrating the sculptural figure into the surrounding composition. The combination of vessel, cup forms, handle, and zoomorphic ornament demonstrates the artist's ability to unite practical ceramic traditions with imaginative sculpture. Entirely modeled, assembled, and decorated by hand, the work possesses the subtle variations and surface characteristics that distinguish an authentic, individually created ceramic object. With its unusual silhouette, strong decorative presence, and abundance of handcrafted detail, this remarkable piece represents an especially appealing expression of contemporary Quinua ceramic art. Its sculptural complexity allows it to be appreciated both as a ceremonial-inspired vessel and as a striking centerpiece for an important collection. ARTIST Marino Maximo Limaco Soto is a master ceramist from Quinua, Ayacucho, Peru.
