A collection of three vintage baby dolls featuring makers E.I. Horsman Company and the American Character Doll Company. The first doll is a Horsman example with a composition head, arms, and legs on a stuffed cloth torso. The back of the neck is incised with the mark E.I.H. CO. INC. and features molded hair with painted details and greenish-grey sleep eyes with eyelashes. It is attired in a two-piece tan cotton romper with white ribbon ties and a matching bonnet. The second doll is an unmarked composition and cloth toddler. The composition head features a painted forehead curl and blue sleep eyes with lashes. The doll is dressed in a white cotton embroidered dress, lace-trimmed bonnet, knit stockings, and cream oilcloth shoes. The third doll is an American Character vinyl toddler marked AMER. CHAR. DOLL and PAT. NO. 2,675,64. It features rooted auburn synthetic hair, sleep eyes, and an open mouth nursing feature. It wears a white cotton romper with pink lace trim. Dolls are 21 inches, 22 inches and 11 inches. This group exhibits expected wear consistent with age and materials. The composition dolls show characteristic crazing and some surface fissures to the finish. The cloth bodies show minor staining. The vinyl doll remains in good condition with minor surface dust. The period footwear shows typical deterioration to the oilcloth materials.
