A Pair of Antique German Socket Head Child Dolls +

This lot includes two antique German socket head child dolls with composition and wood ball-jointed bodies. The larger doll is marked Germany 13 1/2 at the nape and features brown glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered brows, and an open mouth with four inset porcelain teeth. She wears a light brown curled wig and is dressed in a red and white checkered cotton dress with a white eyelet-trimmed pinafore, cotton undergarments, knit socks, and cream shoes. The smaller doll is marked G.B. Germany and features brown glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, and an open mouth with inset teeth. She wears a dark brown curled wig with a large black bow and is dressed in a red plaid smocked dress with red and white embroidery, a white slip, pantaloons, and black knit tights. Larger doll: 28 inches Smaller doll: 23 inches. Both dolls exhibit expected wear consistent with age. The composition bodies show typical minor surface scuffing and finish loss, notably at the larger doll right wrist and left knee joint. The bisque heads appear to be in good overall condition without evidence of hairline cracks or repairs. Clothing shows minor age-related toning.
