Antique German bisque socket head doll produced by J.D. Kestner. The reverse of the head is incised with the maker mark J D K 1 5 / 9. Features include brown glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower eyelashes, and feathered brows. The open mouth reveals four molded upper teeth complemented by rosy painted cheeks and red-accented nostrils. The doll is accompanied by a detached brown wig. The body is constructed with a jointed kid leather torso and upper limbs, bisque porcelain lower arms and hands, and cloth lower legs from the mid-calf down. The period-style ensemble includes a cream silk and lace dress with gathered sleeves and pink ribbon trim, a matching lace bonnet, a white cotton slip with eyelet trim, peach-toned stockings, and pink satin slippers with ribbon ties. Height: 21 inches. This doll displays expected wear consistent with age. This doll displays expected wear consistent with age. The bisque head shows minor surface scuffs and marks. The kid leather body has undergone professional repairs and restorations, including leather patching. The arms show material loss and require minor maintenance. Textiles exhibit characteristic age-toning.
