Vintage Bronze-Finish Plaster Replica of Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker – 12"+ – 7+ lbs. Substantial vintage cast-plaster reproduction of Auguste Rodin’s iconic sculpture The Thinker, finished in a rich bronze-tone patina. Measuring a little over 12 inches tall and weighing slightly more than 7 pounds, this is a surprisingly substantial decorative sculpture with excellent visual presence. The figure depicts Rodin’s famous contemplative male subject seated upon a rocky pedestal, rendered with a heavily textured, expressive surface that gives the sculpture the appearance and character of modeled bronze. The integral rectangular base provides a solid foundation for display. An impressed marking along the base reads “REPLICA 17171,” believed to be a manufacturer’s mold or catalog designation. No maker identification has been located. The sculpture is constructed of cast plaster or a similar composition material with a bronze-effect finish. There are scattered chips, finish losses and areas where the lighter plaster beneath is visible, particularly around the base, along with other wear consistent with age and display. Please examine photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description. An impressive vintage interpretation of one of the most recognizable sculptures in Western art, ideal for a library, study, office, art collection or traditional interior.
