Antique 16-Volume Library of Southern Literature – Edition de Luxe, 1907–1909 Complete 16-volume Library of Southern Literature set, published by The Martin & Hoyt Company of Atlanta, Georgia. Copyright dates of 1907 and 1909 appear within the books. Compiled under the supervision of prominent Southern men of letters, with Edwin Anderson Alderman and Joel Chandler Harris serving as editors-in-chief and Charles William Kent as literary editor. Volumes I–XIII present Southern authors alphabetically and include biographical information, portraits and selections from their writings. The remaining volumes contain miscellaneous writings, a biographical dictionary, indexes, suggested reading courses and historical outlines. The books are illustrated throughout and feature attractive decorative title pages. This “Edition de Luxe” set is bound in burgundy with ornate gilt lettering and decoration along the spines. The covers display a gilt rendering of the Great Seal of the State of Georgia. An impressive and substantial reference collection offering a broad survey of Southern literature, history, biography and culture. Condition: Antique condition with considerable age-related wear. The bindings show rubbing, fading, scuffing, discoloration and areas of surface loss, particularly along the spines, edges and corners. Several spine ends exhibit heavier wear and deterioration. Pages show expected toning and occasional spotting or marks consistent with age. Please examine all photographs carefully for the most accurate representation of condition. Offered as a complete 16-volume set. An attractive library or decorative collection with historical and literary interest.
