Vintage California Crafts Ceramic Pig Platter 14"

Charming vintage California Crafts ceramic pottery platter featuring a whimsical three-dimensional sow with three nursing piglets. The sculptural pink ceramic pigs are positioned along one end of a large triangular-form platter, creating a wonderful piece of mid-century novelty and decorative pottery. The platter measures approximately 14" at its widest point and features a rich mottled brown and caramel glaze surrounded by a dramatic cream-and-brown flowing or drip-glaze border. The glossy pink pigs provide a delightful contrast to the earthy tones of the platter. The underside is impressed “CALIFORNIA CRAFTS” and also bears what appears to be a hand-inscribed or signed name “Dora.” The exact identity of the individual associated with the Dora signature has not been determined. The pig figures appear to be molded/slip-cast ceramic components, typical of decorative California pottery production of the period. Based on its form, glaze and styling, the piece appears consistent with mid-20th-century California pottery, likely circa 1950s–1960s, although an exact production date has not been confirmed. An unusual and highly decorative example of vintage California pottery, combining playful animal imagery with an expressive glaze treatment.
