Offered is a 1922 Peace Silver Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This classic early U.S. silver dollar is from the second year of the Peace Dollar series and is a popular choice among collectors of historic American coinage and 90% silver. The Peace Dollar was designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci to commemorate the peace following World War I. The obverse features Liberty wearing a radiate crown, while the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a mountain with an olive branch and the word “PEACE” below. The series was produced from 1921 through 1935. The 1922 Philadelphia issue had a remarkable mintage of 51,737,000 coins, the highest mintage of any Peace Dollar date. It is also one of the most common dates in the series, making it an excellent type coin for collectors. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 26.73 grams, and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. Philadelphia Mint examples have no mint mark.
