Offered is a 1922-S Peace Silver Dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint. This is the first year Peace Dollars were produced at the San Francisco Mint and is an interesting issue for collectors of early Peace Dollars and classic U.S. silver coinage. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Peace Dollar was designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci to commemorate the peace following World War I. The obverse features Liberty wearing a radiate crown, while the reverse depicts an eagle perched on a mountain with an olive branch and the word “PEACE” below. The series was produced from 1921 through 1935. The 1922-S had a mintage of 17,475,000 coins. It was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 26.73 grams, and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. The “S” mint mark identifies it as a San Francisco Mint issue. The 1922-S is particularly interesting because strike quality can be a challenge on this issue. Many examples exhibit weakness in the central details, including Liberty's hair and the eagle's feathers. Sharply struck examples are considerably more desirable to collectors.
