Offered is a 1997-S Kennedy Half Dollar Silver Proof, struck at the San Francisco Mint. This collectible Proof issue was produced as part of the U.S. Mint's annual Silver Proof offerings and features a sharp, polished Proof finish. Please review the photos for the exact surfaces, cameo contrast, and overall condition. The Kennedy Half Dollar was introduced in 1964 following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The obverse was designed by Gilroy Roberts, while the reverse was designed by Frank Gasparro. Beginning in 1992, the U.S. Mint began producing special Kennedy Half Dollars in 90% silver for annual Silver Proof Sets. The 1997-S Silver Proof had a mintage of 741,678 coins, making it a substantially lower-production issue than the standard 1997-S clad Proof. The coin contains 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 12.5 grams, and contains approximately 0.3617 troy ounces of pure silver. The “S” mint mark identifies it as a San Francisco Proof issue.
