Vintage Ethan Allen American Traditional writing desk with coordinating side chair, crafted of solid maple and/or birch as identified by the branded drawer stamp and finished in the maker’s decorative “Black Combo” treatment. The compact desk features a warm natural-finished writing surface contrasted by an ebonized black gallery and base, with delicate gold-tone line accents and hand-painted floral and foliate decoration across the raised backsplash, drawer fronts, and legs. The upper gallery incorporates two small drawers flanking an open central writing area, while the lower case provides additional drawer storage and rests on slender turned and tapered legs highlighted with gilt bands. Accompanying the desk is a matching Ethan Allen Hitchcock-style chair with shaped wooden seat, spindle back, black-painted frame, gilt pinstriping, and a charming stenciled crest depicting foliage, flowers, and a small deer. The desk drawer is clearly branded “Ethan Allen / American Traditional / Solid Maple and/or Birch,” while the reverse of the gallery carries factory stencil markings including “BLACK COMBO.” Overall condition is good vintage condition with scattered scratches, rubbing, edge wear, finish losses, and more pronounced paint wear along the chair stretchers and portions of the black-painted surfaces, all consistent with age and use. Desk measures 40"H x 32"W x 18"D and chair is 34"H x 18"W x 17"D and seat hieght is 17"tall.
