A substantial Korean-style tansu chest constructed in richly figured hardwood and extensively mounted with decorative brass hardware. The upper section is arranged with four small drawers fitted with curved brass pulls above a central double-door storage compartment, the doors secured by a large pierced circular lock plate and surrounded by multiple ornamental strap hinges, corner brackets, and applied mounts; the lower section is configured as a large hinged storage compartment with additional brass strapwork, studs, corner reinforcements, and a central decorative hasp, all resting on a shaped bracket-foot base. The pronounced wood grain, paneled construction, and dense arrangement of brass fittings give the chest a highly decorative appearance, while the stacked configuration and compartmentalized storage evoke the traditional East Asian tansu form. Interior compartments and drawers retain unfinished or lightly finished secondary woods, contrasting with the warm brown exterior surfaces. Condition is fair to good overall with substantial age- and use-related wear, including extensive scratches, abrasions, finish loss, and scattered pale surface deposits across the top, staining and dark discoloration within several drawers, scuffs and surface marks throughout, oxidation and tarnish to the brass fittings, minor separations and wear at joints and edges, and darker alteration or coating to the rear boards; hardware appears largely present, and the chest retains strong . Measures 42.5"H x 38"W x 15.5"D.
