Mid-century National No. 208-series manual gummed-tape dispenser manufactured by the Nashua Package Sealing Company of Nashua, New Hampshire. Built for mercantile counters, grocery stores, mailrooms, and commercial shipping departments, this substantial machine was designed to feed, moisten, and cut water-activated paper tape for sealing boxes and wrapped packages. Published specifications for the No. 208 describe a single-lever system capable of dispensing predetermined tape lengths, with repeated strokes used when a longer strip was required. The dispenser retains its streamlined gray enameled-metal housing, chrome-plated operating lever, red-lettered National identification strip, and embossed Nashua Package Sealing Company markings. The interior includes an original advertising and service card for A. V. Anderson of Denver, Colorado, representing the Nashua Package Sealing Division. An applied provenance label identifies the machine as a tape dispenser from the Miners Mercantile, Pocket's Store, adding regional mercantile interest. Nashua was an established producer of gummed and coated papers as well as the machinery used to dispense and apply them. Its National Pakager trade line covered equipment for moistening, dispensing, and applying adhesive or gummed tape for package sealing and related commercial uses. The dispenser retains an appealing aged surface with scattered finish wear, scratches, light oxidation, and signs of prior commercial use. The lever and housing remain in place, and the interior appears largely complete; however, operation, moistening function, and cutting performance have not been tested. Approx. dimensions are 12" L 7" H.
