Vintage Chatillon hanging produce scale manufactured by John Chatillon & Sons, New York, U.S.A., featuring a 30-pound capacity dial with ounce graduations. This classic market scale retains its original white porcelain enamel produce pan, metal hanging frame, and suspension chain. Once commonly found in grocery stores, produce markets, butcher shops, and farm stands throughout the early to mid-20th century, Chatillon scales earned a reputation for dependable accuracy and quality craftsmanship. This example displays an attractive, easy-to-read dial and retains an Oregon Department of Agriculture inspection decal marked "For Estimating Purposes Only," providing additional character and evidence of its commercial use. The porcelain enamel pan shows light wear consistent with age and normal use, while the scale presents well overall and offers excellent display appeal. A desirable piece for collectors of country store antiques, mercantile advertising, farm memorabilia, primitive kitchen dcor, or vintage weighing equipment. Whether displayed in a home, cabin, market, or retail setting, this complete Chatillon produce scale is an increasingly difficult example to find with its original enamel pan intact.
