Howe Richardson mechanical beam platform scale, Model 2141 XL, manufactured by Howe Richardson Scale Co. of Rutland, Vermont. Features an enclosed steel cabinet design with mechanical balance beam, sliding poise weights, platform, and carrying handles. Rated for a 300 lb capacity. Identification plate reads: * Manufacturer: Howe Richardson Scale Co. * Model: 2141 XL * Serial No.: 69 03943 * Capacity: 300 lbs Howe Richardson traces its roots to the historic Howe Scale Company, one of America's premier scale manufacturers dating to the 19th century. During the mid-to-late 20th century, the company produced rugged mechanical scales for military, commercial, industrial, and institutional use before electronic scales became the industry standard. Replacement parts for these beam scales are still produced today, a testament to their durability and continued use. Included with the scale is a note indicating: "For Ted: This is a National Guard scale. Steve Allen gave me." While this note provides interesting provenance, the military history has not been independently verified. The platform shows moderate surface wear and oxidation consistent with age and use, while the cabinet and beam assembly remain in very good cosmetic condition. Beam, poises, and mechanical linkage appear complete as photographed. Scale has not been tested for accuracy or calibration and is selling as-is. A desirable piece for collectors of military surplus, industrial equipment, commercial weighing devices, or vintage Americana. Selling as-is, where-is. Buyer is responsible for loading and transportation. Measures approximately 24" x 18" x 12" folded up
