HiBid Description Vintage Union Carbide Oxweld Railroad Carbide Lamp marked "Railroad Lamp," "Tecweld Road Service No. 10, and “Patented. Manufactured by Union Carbide & Carbon Corp., New York, N.Y. and Chicago, Ill. These carbide lamps were used by railroad maintenance crews and track workers during the mid-20th century. This example is in great vintage condition and appears unusually well preserved. It retains the original metal body, glass lens, reflector, carrying handle, burner assembly, hardware, and readable identification markings. The lamp displays only light wear appropriate for age and presents exceptionally well for an industrial railroad collectible. Provenance: This lamp comes from the estate of Mr. Percy Hill of Magnolia, Mississippi, one of the largest collectors of railroad lanterns, locks, and insulators in the Southeast.
