VMC VIRGINIA METAL CRAFTERS BRASS & GLASS INKWELL

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Measuring 2-1/4" square and approximately 2-1/4" H with the cover in place, this vintage Virginia Metalcrafters desk inkwell combines a notably thick molded-glass reservoir with an ornate removable brass cover. The compact inkwell weighs just over one pound, providing the substantial stability expected of a traditional writing-desk accessory. The clear glass body is molded with bold diagonal ribbing, scalloped upper corners and a radiating starburst across the underside. The bottom bears the molded VMC monogram associated with Virginia Metalcrafters. The decorative brass cover features a scalloped foliate border, radiating flutes and a raised central finial, lifting away to reveal the circular recessed ink reservoir. Examples of this same inkwell were supplied individually and as components of larger Virginia Metalcrafters brass desk stands and paired inkwell sets. Virginia Metalcrafters of Waynesboro, Virginia, was particularly known for substantial cast-brass household and desk accessories, including historically inspired forms produced during the 20th century.
