AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Measuring 4-1/4" H and approximately 2-3/4" across the shoulder, this diminutive Italian art-glass vase is formed of thin, translucent turquoise-blue glass with a rounded baluster body, short neck and applied circular foot. The vase is richly decorated with heavy gold gilding, including a broad gold neck, narrow banding and elaborate scrolling floral ornament arranged around the body. A distinctive gilt emblem on the side depicts the winged Lion of Saint Mark above an oval VR monogram. The winged lion is the traditional emblem of Venice, and this particular VR mark is associated in the collector market with glass sold as Vecchia Murano. Comparable marked examples appear in multiple colors and forms, typically with similarly elaborate gold decoration. However, published factory documentation for the VR concern appears limited, so the attribution should be understood through the surviving mark and established marketplace identification rather than assigned to one of the better-documented historic Murano houses. The thin blown-glass construction, Venetian emblem and ornate gilt treatment place the vase within the decorative Murano and Venetian-style glass tradition of the mid-to-late 20th century. The small scale suggests use as a bud vase or cabinet-display ornament.
