2 > MILK CRATES Filled GLASS POWER LINE INSULATORS

NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > A group of two vintage molded plastic dairy crates, including a red example embossed ~ SUPERBRAND ~ and a lighter colored example retaining a partially visible Borden name panel. One crate is nearly filled with more than a dozen heavy glass utility insulators in clear, aqua, blue green, and deeper green tones. The collection includes a variety of dome, beehive, and skirted forms originally manufactured to support and electrically isolate overhead telegraph, telephone, and power lines. Several examples retain molded lettering, numbers, or manufacturer markings, with at least one visible green insulator appearing to bear a Hemingray name. Individual styles and markings have not been separately inventoried. Hemingray became one of America’s largest producers of glass insulators, supplying enormous quantities for expanding telegraph, telephone, and electrical networks from the nineteenth century into the twentieth century. Clear, aqua, ice blue, and green were among the commonly produced colors, with form numbers and embossed markings now used by collectors to identify particular models and periods. The two dairy crates provide an authentic utilitarian setting for the collection and may also serve for workshop, garage, garden, or industrial style storage and display. Borden shipping crates form part of the long history of reusable dairy distribution containers used to transport milk products between processors, retailers, and institutions. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered and not individually inspected. The insulators exhibit accumulated dirt, mineral deposits, scratches, small edge flakes, manufacturing irregularities, and varying degrees of surface wear. Cracks, chips, or other damage may be present among pieces not fully visible within the crate. Both milk crates show heavy use, staining, fading, abrasions, and surface wear. All visible contents are included.
