AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Offered as a pair of antique ornate hand bells, the taller standing 4.75" with a 3" diameter bell and the smaller standing 3.25" with a 2" diameter bell. Each bell displays elaborate Victorian Renaissance Revival ornament with Baroque-inspired scrolls, floral relief and openwork cartouche handles, decorative elements popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Each is heavily cast with an openwork handle, flared bell form and raised decorative ornament around the skirt. The larger example features scalloped foliate decoration, while the smaller displays repeating scroll and floral motifs. Both retain suspended interior clappers and produce a traditional ringing tone when moved by hand. Neither bell accepts a magnet, while the naturally developed green verdigris and dark aged patina are consistent with cast bronze or a related copper alloy. Such bells served throughout the home and workplace for summoning household staff, signaling service in a hotel or restaurant, calling attention at a shop counter or desk, and general use by a cook, host or proprietor. The substantial cast construction and untouched surfaces give the pair appealing character for display with antique kitchen and cooking accessories, servant bells, hotel and restaurant memorabilia, primitive household objects and early decorative metalware.
