AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A substantial vintage Marshall Pottery stoneware batter bowl standing 5.5" tall, measuring 7.5" in diameter across the body, excluding the pouring lip and handle, and weighing a notable 3.5 pounds. The hand-thrown mixing and pouring vessel features a warm white glazed body accented by two hand-painted blue bands. Its deep rounded form, broad pouring spout and large loop handle were designed for mixing batter, sauces, gravies, dressings and other cooking ingredients, then pouring them directly into a baking pan or serving vessel. The generous proportions also make it useful as a kitchen mixing bowl, farmhouse pitcher or decorative crock. The underside bears an ink-stamped MARSHALL POTTERY hallmark incorporating the outline of the State of Texas, with MASTER POTTER E.J. Humphries written in script within the mark. E.J. Humphries was a master potter associated with the historic Marshall, Texas pottery and is documented demonstrating traditional wheel-thrown production in a 1970 film about the company. Marshall Pottery was established in Marshall, Texas, in 1895 and became widely known for durable utilitarian stoneware and hand-turned household pottery. The clean blue-and-white decoration and substantial hand-crafted form complement farmhouse, country kitchen, cottage and traditional cooking displays.
