The Little Family by Lois Lenski follows Mr. and Mrs. Little and their children, Sally and Tommy, through the familiar routines of family life inside their small home. First published in 1932, the compact volume was designed for young hands and reflects Lenski’s interest in presenting everyday childhood experiences through simple text and bold illustrations. Lenski later became one of America’s most recognized children’s authors and illustrators, earning the 1946 Newbery Medal for Strawberry Girl. The House That Jack Built, identified across the cover as A Puppet Storybook, presents the traditional cumulative nursery rhyme through staged puppet photography. Published by Grosset & Dunlap and credited to T. Izawa and S. Hijikata, the book uses dimensional puppet characters and miniature settings to animate the familiar sequence surrounding Jack, the house, the malt, the rat and the other figures added with each verse. Examples of this edition are documented from 1969. Little Puppy is a compact Chronicle Books finger puppet board book featuring a plush puppy permanently incorporated into the pages. Peek-through openings allow the puppet to appear throughout the story, encouraging interactive reading and play. Illustrated by Klaartje van der Put, the 12-page book was published in 2007 and measures approximately 4.375" square. Together, the group spans traditional picture-book storytelling, mid-century puppet photography and a later tactile board-book format, creating an appealing collection for children’s literature, nursery décor, puppet-book and vintage illustration enthusiasts.
