WINGS of TEXACO LOCKHEED ELECTRA DIECAST AIRPLANE

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Sealed, never opened, a Wings of Texaco 1937 Lockheed Model 12A “Electra Junior” diecast airplane, issued as number 24 in the series and presented in the original illustrated Heritage Texaco box. Manufactured by Ertl in 2016 under stock number CP7390, the model is produced in 1:50 scale and measures approximately 8.5" long across the fuselage, 12" across the wings and 3" tall. The silver aircraft features red engine cowlings, matching pinstriping, Texaco lettering, winged star emblems and registration number NC18137 across the upper wing. Detailed twin radial engines, rotating propellers, molded rivet work, cabin windows, landing gear and the distinctive twin tail reproduce the streamlined appearance of the prewar executive transport. The Lockheed Model 12 Electra Junior was introduced during the late 1930s as a smaller companion to the Model 10 Electra, combining all metal construction, retractable landing gear, enclosed flaps and twin engines within a compact passenger and corporate aircraft. The airplane represented by this model was built in 1937 and originally delivered to Continental Airlines before later service with Transcontinental and Western Air, which became TWA. Texaco acquired the aircraft after World War II, creating the direct aviation and petroleum connection celebrated by this release. The Wings of Texaco series became a popular annual line of detailed diecast aircraft honoring airplanes associated with Texaco corporate, promotional and aviation history. This regular edition is distinguished from the separately issued TWA variation and remains an appealing crossover collectible for aviation enthusiasts, Texaco advertising collectors, service station memorabilia displays and vintage transportation collections.
