This lot comprises two Canadian 50-cent coins dated 1959 and 1961. Struck in 80% silver (.800 fineness), the coins feature the laureated effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, designed by Mary Gillick, with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse of each coin displays the 1957 modified Arms of Canada, featuring a shield supported by a lion and a unicorn, surmounted by a royal crown and lion crest. Reverse inscriptions include CANADA, the respective years of issue, and the denomination 50 CENTS. A ribbon at the base bears the motto A MARI USQUE AD MARE. Both coins have reeded edges. Condition: Both coins are in circulated condition. The 1961 example retains a degree of original lustre with light wear noted on the high points of the shield. The 1959 example shows more uniform surface wear and subtle toning. Both examples are free from significant edge nicks or deep scratches.
