This oil painting on stretched canvas is a mid-20th-century copy of Jean-François Millet's 1857 masterpiece, The Gleaners. The scene depicts three peasant women laboring in a field to collect leftover grain after the harvest, with large hayricks and a horse-drawn wagon visible in the background under a hazy sky. The work is rendered in a realist style with a muted, earthy palette and blended brushwork. The painting is signed VERA PURT in the lower right corner. The wooden stretcher on the reverse is stamped with the manufacturer mark GRUMBACHER NEW YORK and the dimensions 12 and 16. The gold-toned wooden frame features a linen liner and bears several stamps on the reverse for A Gallery of FRAMES, located in Beach, Florida, with a seven-digit phone number 334-5555. Dimensions (canvas): 12 x 16 inches Dimensions (frame): approx. 17.75 x 21.75 inches (Measured against a ruler; note only inches shown). Condition: The painting displays a fine network of craquelure across the canvas surface and some minor accumulated surface dirt. The frame shows light wear consistent with age, including small scuffs to the gilt finish and dust trapped within the texture of the linen liner. The canvas appears stable on its original wooden stretcher.
