Offset lithograph on paper after the 1884 painting by Jules Breton. The work depicts a solitary peasant woman in a field, holding a sickle and looking upward toward the rising sun. A label affixed to the reverse identifies the artist as Jules Breton (French, 1827-1906) and the title as The Song of the Lark, noting that the original oil painting is held by The Art Institute of Chicago. The backing paper also bears a stamp for Crichton Gallery in St. Catharines. The print is presented in a multi-layered frame with gold-tone edges and a beige fabric-textured mat. Dimensions: Frame height approx. 21 inches Frame width approx. 17 inches. Condition: The print exhibits noticeable color fading with a tonal shift toward blue and green. The frame shows surface scuffs and general wear to the gilt finish. The brown paper dust cover on the reverse is brittle and heavily torn.
