Dating to 1940, this WWII German officer's map case is constructed of pebbled black leather with contrasting white heavy stitching. The case features a fold-over main flap secured by a leather strap and metal buckle, twin belt attachment loops on the reverse, and an interior organized with pencil slots, a ruler compartment, and a document sleeve. Stamped on the underside of the inner flap is the manufacture code marking "88L 40/ab/0002". Accompanying the case are several period-style folded paper field maps, including a printed road map of Germany. Showing honest signs of field deployment, the leather demonstrates light surface wear, scuffing, and minor edge abrasions. Thread fraying and localized stitching loss are present along the pencil slots on the front cover. The maps show age toning, handling creases, and edge wear. Dimensions: 12 x 8 inches. Complete with its internal dividers and supplementary paper maps, this wartime example offers strong display appeal for WWII militaria and field gear collectors. BP
