This item is a WWI Imperial German Prussian Model 1915 (M1915) Ersatz spiked helmet (Pickelhaube). The body is constructed from pressed black lacquered leather with M1915 field-grey painted steel fittings (subdued chemically/lacquered steel) designed to reduce glare in combat. The front features a stamped steel Prussian Line Eagle (Wappen) bearing the banner MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND (With God for King and Fatherland) and the FR (Fredericus Rex) monogram. The helmet retains its removable field spike on a round base, rear spine, side M1891 chinstrap posts (Button 91), original black/white/red Reich and black/white Prussian side cockades (Kokarden), a leather chinstrap, and a complete multi-tongued brown leather interior liner showing a clear 1916 issue/maker date stamp on the interior leather. The black leather body displays natural age surface crazing (crackling) with tight seams, while the interior liner remains complete and intact. PM
