Heavy German or Central European cold-weather service coat dating from the 1930s–1940s. Constructed of charcoal-gray cotton twill with dense black curly lamb or sheepskin-type lining. Features a tall wraparound storm collar with buttoned throat tab, offset overlapping front closure, slanted welt pockets, and gray pebble-finished metal buttons with loop shanks. The substantial construction was intended for prolonged outdoor use in severe winter conditions. The buttons and overall construction are consistent with period German service clothing, and military sentry or vehicle-driver use is possible; however, no maker, date, issue stamps, insignia, or unit markings are visible, and military attribution remains unconfirmed. Could also have served railway, industrial, transport, police, or municipal personnel. Displays extensive working wear, including fading, discoloration, surface grime, abrasions, missing buttons, small holes, loose stitching, old repairs, and wear or losses to the lining. GE
