This striking Mata Ortiz art pottery vessel features a highly burnished black ground and a dramatic three-dimensional lizard or reptile effigy emerging from the side of the pot. The bulbous, taper-necked form contrasts its smooth, polished body with the heavily textured, stippled scales and incised claws of the sculpted reptile. The underside bears a hand-incised signature for Mata Ortiz artisan Lidia Renteria. The piece remains in very good display condition with no obvious chips or cracks, exhibiting only minor surface wear, light scratches, and typical smudges associated with polished blackware. The vessel measures approximately 5.5 inches tall and 7 inches wide at its widest point. See photos for full details.
