This striking black-on-black art pottery vessel is the work of Mata Ortiz artist Jose L. Quezada, whose incised signature is located on the polished underside. Measuring approximately 6 inches tall and 7 inches in diameter, the bulbous seed pot features a highly burnished black ground meticulously decorated with matte black painted geometric motifs. The standout feature is a heavily textured, three-dimensional lizard or reptile effigy that clings dramatically across the upper rim, seamlessly blending sculptural form with traditional hand-built pottery techniques. The piece appears to be in very good overall condition with no obvious structural chips or cracks, exhibiting only minor surface wear, dust, and light handling smudges typical of polished blackware. See photos for full details.
