This French faience lidded tub, also known as a sugar barrel or jam jar, is produced by the Henriot Quimper factory. The piece features a cylindrical body with two integral, upright handles and a corresponding notched lid designed to accommodate the handles. The hand-painted decoration is in the Le Coq Prestigieux pattern, featuring a central polychrome rooster (cockerel) on the lid. The exterior of the tub and the lid are further embellished with a repeating frieze of stylized blue leaves and horizontal bands of green and blue. The underside of the base features hand-painted marks in reddish-brown including F. 298, D. 179, NC, and X. Blue marks include HENRIOT, QUIMPER, France, main, and Entièrement décoré.Height: 3 1/4 inchesDiameter: 3 3/4 inches.The item is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs. There is very minor, expected shelf wear to the unglazed foot ring on the base.
