Estimate: 20 / 200 Ayrmann, Christoph Friedrich (praeses); Retter, Johann Friedrich Conrad (respondent). DISSERTATIO HISTORICO-CHRONOLOGICA, QUA SICULA DIONYSIORUM TYRANNIS, EX ANTIQUITATE REPETITA. Giessen: Litteris Mullerianis, 1726. 7.25" x 5.75". [2], 42 pp. Disbound. An early eighteenth-century Latin academic dissertation examining the chronology and political history of the tyrants of ancient Syracuse, principally Dionysius I ("the Elder") and Dionysius II ("the Younger"). Drawing upon the testimony of the principal classical historians, the work seeks to reconcile chronological difficulties surrounding the Dionysian tyranny while recounting the rise, military exploits, and eventual decline of the Syracusan regime. Condition: Foxing and toning throughout.
