SIX DECADES IN TEXAS; OR, MEMOIRS OF FRANCIS RICHARD LUBBOCK, GOVERNOR OF TEXAS IN WAR-TIME, 1861–63: EMBRACING A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IN BUSINESS, WAR, AND POLITICS. Edited by C.W. Raines. The memoirs of Francis Richard Lubbock, Governor of Texas during the Civil War, offer a firsthand account of more than sixty years of Texas history from the Republic era through Reconstruction. Lubbock recounts his experiences as a merchant, politician, Confederate governor, and later Confederate officer and aide to Jefferson Davis, providing valuable observations on Texas politics, frontier settlement, secession, the Civil War, and the state's leading personalities. Edited by noted Texas historian C.W. Raines and illustrated with numerous engraved portraits and views. An important primary source for nineteenth-century Texas history by one of the state's most influential political figures. First editions are increasingly sought after for their firsthand treatment of Civil War Texas, the Confederate government west of the Mississippi, and the political development of the Lone Star State. Condition: Some soiling to binding, contents exhibiting signs of average use with occasional finger-soiling, some creased corners, overall Good.
