Official journal recording the proceedings of the first session of the Fourth Congress during the administration of President George Washington. This session includes the admission of Tennessee as the sixteenth state, legislation relating to western expansion and frontier defense, and numerous other measures documenting the continued growth and development of the early Republic. The Journal preserves the official record of the congressional proceedings during one of the formative periods of the federal government. Condition: Binding lacking front board and spine panel, numerous old stamps of the TN Historical Society (including withdrawn stamp) throughout, one page with long tear and also chipped with loss of part of a paragraph, foxing throughout, text-block broken in several places, sold as-is with all faults.
