Estimate: 80 / 800 A collection of six original McKenney & Hall Hand-colored lithographic plates. Approx. 10.25" x 6.5". Six original hand-colored lithographic plates from the octavo edition of Thomas L. McKenney and James Hall's History of the Indian Tribes of North America (early 1850s). The portraits depict Sharitarish (Pawnee), Nowaykesugga (Otoe), Powasheek (Fox), Red Jacket (Seneca), Thayendanega (Joseph Brant, Mohawk leader of the Six Nations), and Choucape (Otto Second Chief). Printed by D. Rice & A.N. Hart, Philadelphia, with lithography by J.T. Bowen. These richly hand-colored portraits are among the most attractive images from the celebrated McKenney & Hall series, depicting Native leaders adorned with elaborate peace medals, feathered headdresses, necklaces, and other ceremonial regalia. The plates remain clean and only very lightly toned, with bright, vibrant original color throughout. Condition: Very Good condition, clean, boards very slightly bowed.
