Title: Cosmic Sunset Landscape Technique: Mixed media on paper Measures: 21 x 29.5 cm (approximately 8.3 x 11.6 inches) Year: Undated Inscription: An inscription reading “Max” appears in the upper-right corner. Condition: Good overall condition. The sheet retains vivid coloration and visible painterly texture. Minor surface wear, handling marks, tonal variation, and age-related imperfections may be present. Please review the supplied photograph carefully for a complete assessment. Provenance: Private collection, Florida; reportedly acquired locally from the contents of a Treasure Coast residence and retained by the same family for several decades. Acquisition history is based on information supplied by the family. Visual Description: A vibrant psychedelic landscape dominated by an enormous red-orange sun descending behind rolling green hills. Broad white and pale-blue clouds cross the horizon, while small white birds are scattered across the saturated blue sky. Rows of stylized trees extend through the middle ground, separating the glowing sun from the undulating landscape below. A winding pale-blue river moves diagonally through the foreground, where bold passages of green, turquoise, purple, red, yellow, and dark blue create a rhythmic arrangement of hills, rocks, and reflections. Simplified shapes and energetic applications of color give the landscape a dreamlike, cosmic quality. The monumental sun, brilliant palette, flattened forms, optimistic imagery, and combination of Pop Art with psychedelic fantasy reflect the visual culture of the American counterculture and “flower power” era. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
