Technique: Mixed media on paper Measures: 20.5 x 31 cm (approximately 8.1 x 12.2 inches) Year: Undated Inscription: An inscription reading “K. Haring,” accompanied by an encircled cross-like symbol, appears beneath the composition at lower right. Condition: Good overall condition. The sheet retains strong blue coloration and clear graphic definition. Minor toning, surface wear, handling marks, scattered discoloration, and age-related imperfections may be present. Please review the supplied photograph carefully for a complete assessment. Provenance: Private collection, Chicago; reportedly acquired through a private transaction in the early 1990s from a collector of postwar American art. Previous ownership details were conveyed verbally. Visual Description: A densely organized graphic composition rendered in blue and black against an off-white paper ground. Interlocking human-like figures, bent limbs, hands, curving lines, arrows, and abstract symbols fill a rectangular enclosure. The forms appear compressed within a maze-like structure composed of repeated horizontal bars and angular divisions. A central vertical axis divides the image while mirrored curves and opposing figures create a broadly symmetrical arrangement. Bold black contours define the imagery, and blue pigment fills the spaces between the lines, producing a visual effect reminiscent of graffiti, pictographs, and architectural plans. Squared spirals at the corners reinforce the decorative border and contain the energetic movement within the image. The simplified figures, continuous linear rhythm, repeated symbols, and fusion of street art with graphic design reflect the visual language associated with late twentieth-century American Pop Art and the New York graffiti movement. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
