Title: Pop Art Still Life with Fruit Technique: Mixed media on paper Measures: 21 x 29.5 cm (approximately 8.3 x 11.6 inches) Year: Undated Condition: Good overall condition. The sheet retains vivid coloration and strong graphic definition. Minor surface wear, handling marks, slight tonal variation, and age-related imperfections may be present. Please review the supplied photograph carefully for a complete assessment. Provenance: From a private New York collection; reportedly acquired with a group of Pop Art works during the 1990s and later transferred to a family residence in Florida. Earlier collection history was not recorded in the information supplied to the auction house. Visual Description: A vibrant still-life composition depicting an overflowing bowl of fruit set against a densely patterned geometric background. Clusters of green and purple grapes surround a large yellow fruit, red apples, and elongated orange forms suggestive of bananas. The fruit is defined by heavy black contours and selective white highlights, creating a bold, highly graphic appearance. The surrounding space is divided into intersecting fields of red, yellow, orange, black, white, and purple. Triangular planes, vertical bands, diagonal stripes, and fields of painted dots produce a layered, energetic setting. Repeated dot patterns evoke the visual effect of commercial Ben-Day printing, while the simplified forms and saturated primary colors recall imagery drawn from advertising, comics, and mass-produced graphics. The flattened perspective, emphatic outlines, mechanical-looking patterns, and transformation of an everyday still-life subject into a monumental graphic image reflect the visual vocabulary associated with twentieth-century American Pop Art. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
