An American country work table or small writing desk dating to the 19th century, constructed from solid hardwood. The piece features a rectangular plank top with visible circular wood plugs covering the fasteners. The structure is supported by four turned legs with ring and baluster motifs. A single wide drawer is centered in the apron, constructed with hand-cut dovetail joinery and fitted with a cast-metal drop-ring pull and decorative backplate. Dimensions (approximate, measured against an inch-scale tape measure): Height: 29.5 inches Width: 37.5 inches Depth: 20.25 inches. Condition: The table is in fair to good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. The top surface exhibits water rings, scratches, areas of finish loss, and wood checking. A chip is located on the front edge of the top above the drawer. The finish shows significant wear and unevenness throughout, particularly on the legs and drawer front.
