This lot features two vintage mid-century world globes. The first is a lithographed tin commemorative globe celebrating John Glenn's 1962 flight as the first American in orbit. The sphere displays a black line tracking the orbital paths across the Atlantic Ocean and Africa, labeled First American in Orbit, Feb. 20, 1962, with individual markers for the first, second, and third orbits alongside Mercury capsule illustrations. The octagonal tin base is decorated with various national flags, including those of the United States, United Kingdom, USSR, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, Ghana, and Ireland, surrounding a central United Nations emblem. Text on the base reads United Nations Flag Adopted by the General Assembly on 20 October 1947. The globe is mounted on a molded cream-colored plastic semi-meridian. The second item is a larger educational world globe featuring reproduction antique-style cartography. The cream-toned sphere includes decorative elements such as a compass rose, historical sailing vessels, and a portrait of Christopher Columbus labeled Christopher Columbus 1451-1506. The map illustrates historical navigation paths, including Columbus 1492-93. It is supported by a gold-toned plastic semi-meridian arm and a circular weighted base. Measurements read from a visible ruler: Height of commemorative tin globe: approx. 10.5 inches Height of antique-style globe: approx. 16 inches. Condition: The commemorative tin globe shows signs of vintage wear, including surface scratches on the globe sphere, oxidation and spotting on the lithographed tin base, and discoloration to the plastic meridian arm. The larger antique-style globe is in good vintage condition with uniform toning and yellowing to the surface, and minor scuffs present on the base and meridian.
