This late 19th-century chest of drawers is constructed from a light-toned wood, likely pine, with inset side panels. The case features a backsplash with canted corners and the front corners are decorated with reeded pilasters that terminate at a simple plinth base. The chest contains three full-width drawers, each constructed with machine-cut dovetail joinery. The drawer interiors are composed of a light-colored softwood. The piece is fitted with six cast metal bail handles featuring scrolling foliate backplates in the Art Nouveau style with a dark patina. A circular metal escutcheon is located on the top drawer face. Height to top surface: approx. 30 in (measured against a ruler) Overall height including backsplash: approx. 32.5 in (measured against a ruler) Depth: approx. 16 in (measured against a ruler). Condition: The chest is in fair antique condition with significant signs of wear and age. The top surface and drawer fronts exhibit visible water marks, scratches, and finish loss. A prominent horizontal scratch is located across the center of the top drawer front. The wood shows some drying cracks, most notably on the backsplash. The base shows scuffs and wear consistent with utility.
