An antique spindle-back rocking chair constructed from stained hardwood with a warm reddish-brown finish. The chair features a high back with a shaped crest rail decorated with a central pressed fan and scroll motif. The backrest contains eight vertical spindles positioned between two tall outer uprights topped with turned finials. The shaped, scrolled arms are supported by turned posts. A central circular seat insert is upholstered in dark brown material and secured with a border of decorative brass-toned upholstery tacks. The chair sits on four turned legs joined by a stretcher system and mounted onto curved wooden rockers. Visible screw heads are present on the upper surface of the seat frame. Total height approx. 99 cm Seat width approx. 49.5 cm Seat insert diameter approx. 30.5 cm. Condition: Fair condition. The wooden seat panel shows a significant split extending from front to back on both sides of the circular upholstered insert. There are various scuffs, scratches, and wear to the finish throughout, particularly on the arms, rockers, and legs. The upholstery shows surface wear but appears intact.
