Buckle Pat. Mar. 15, 1864. Issued during the height of the American Civil War, this authentic 19th-century patent brass harness, belt, or shoe buckle (measuring approximately 2.25 inches long by 1.50 inches wide) features a mechanical tongue-and-slide design with a central hinged clasp bar. Crafted from nickel-plated brass or white metal alloy, the piece is stamped "BANISTER'S CENTENNIAL PAT. MAR. 15 '64" on its front tongue bar, marking it as a highly desirable crossover item for military, hardware, and period costume collectors. The buckle presents in good antique condition with a freely moving, fully functional hinged mechanism, exhibiting no structural defects or major bends alongside expected age-appropriate wear such as light surface scuffing, fine hairline scratches, and subtle plating wear along the outer rim edges.
