Sterling Vermeil Enamel Wings Pin 1.5In. Crafted in gold-washed sterling silver (vermeil) with vitreous white and blue enamel detailing, this authentic World War II US Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service (AWS) civilian volunteer Observer winged insignia pin (c. 1941–1945) measures approximately 1.5 inches wide by 0.65 inches high. Commemorating the vital home front defense organization whose civilian volunteers tracked coastal aircraft during WWII, the badge features stylized aviator wings flanking a central target crest marked "ARMY AIR FORCES AWS OBSERVER" and is stamped "STERLING" alongside a numeric hallmark ("S59") on the reverse safety catch. Highly desirable to military and aviation insignia collectors, this official issue presents in very good historical condition with an intact, functional pin stem and rollover catch, bright undamaged enamel fill, and strong vermeil plating exhibiting only minor high-point rubbing, light tarnish, and subtle patina darkening on the reverse.
